April 22, 2020 - Confirm Raven qualifies to pass through the Panama Canal without 14 day quarantine!
Early in April the Panama Canal had implemented procedures for pleasure craft to transit the canal which required a 14 day quarantine in the area with the needed crew on-board and the crew had to pass a health check. But - reading the new ADVISORY, we may have a way to fast track through the process!
Using the existing Panama Canal ACP card in the pilot house of Raven, and contacting a canal agent Erick Galvez, he is able to check the records and verify the recorded boats length as 20.1 meters. This meets the criteria of ADVISORY TO SHIPPING No. A-14-2020 (April 7) which allows for vessels over 20m/65 feet to transit the canal without quarantine as long as line handlers, line and fenders are already on-board!
On June 4, 2020 I will learn the significance of the boat previously making the trip to the east coast as Leela.
Now all we need are:
- Four lengths of 7/8" diameter rope that are 150 feet long
- Four line handlers, along with a captain
- Large fenders that can protect the boat from the concrete canal walls
- Eight 55 gallon fuel drums to make sure we can make it from Panama to San Diego non-stop (should Mexico be closed to boats)
