June 15, 2020 - Puerto Vallarta - What Else?

Well, while we are hauled out I asked Ed West to look at our bottom paint and stabilizers.  Turns out the bottom paint is in very sad shape and does not appear to be well maintained recently.  So we will sand down and remove the old coats of paint, and apply 2 primer coats, a base coat (blue) and two final coats (black) of Pettit Trinidad.

AND the stabilizers - in sad shape.  Found wear marks and damage on the shafts - definitely need replacement to return to proper operations along with repairs to the actuators and bushings.

With help from Tyler Noyes at S-3 Maritime, we are able to get a seal and bearing kit for repair of the stabilizers.  Unfortunately, Wesmar has just shut down and is in the process of relocating from Woodinville to Bellingham.  Initial quote for replacement fins was August - but Tyler thinks he can get them in three weeks.  Will have to see if we install new fins in Mexico or wait to install them in Seattle with the boat making the last leg with the old fins in place.

Things not found during survey:

• Failing bottom paint - reported renewed in the fall of 2019
• Pitted drive shaft
• Failing shaft bearings - even though it had been serviced 2015 and 2016
• Bow thruster wiring issue
• Stabilizer system in need of significant maintenance even though reported they had been serviced in September 2019
• Failed Balmar regulator and missing thermal sensor connection
