We started receiving a text message from Nikolay with several photos. Turns out he has been investigating the venting solution for the NEW Amertech seal that was just installed.
The instructions were not explicit regarding the venting resulting in the addition of an in-line valve to restrict water flow to the seal. This was needed to keep water from overflowing up the vent line.
After further communication with Amartech, they did not advise an in-line valve but recommended an automatic venting unit at the end of the vent line to prevent water from overflowing. Another option is to vent the excess water over board.
Nikolay and I had discussed the previous day, and after reading their response he implemented an ingenious solution to further investigate the situation. Or in his words: Ingenuity- grew up and learned how to sail in Bulgaria. The nearest marine store was 300 miles away, there was international border with land mine field between us and the store... If you need it, make it work!
With this demonstration, exhibiting small excess flow, we agreed that the automatic venting solution is the best approach with the valve fully open (or removed). It will remove the risk of inadvertent closure of the valve and eliminating the risk of damage to the seal.
