October 13, 2020 - Haul Out - Busy as Canadian Beavers: Burning down the Repair List

Since August we have largely completed our first round of cleaning and de-cluttering the boat.  And we have fit in a few local cruising trips while completing this effort.  Friends from the northlands have said we must be as busy as a pair of Canadian Beavers.  We have removed all the unnecessary/un-wanted items and organized Raven in a fashion that is more suited to how we operate the boat.

Now we are onto the major maintained items.  Last week it was removal:

  • Electric coil stove
  • Failed washing machine
  • Dryer that was not properly vented

Accomplishments last week include:
  • Service of the Cummins QSM-11 455 HO engine
  • Service the Twin Disc transmission
  • Service the Northernlights 25 kW generator
  • Service the Northernlights 6 kW generator
  • Service the Keypower Get-Home drive
  • Service the tenders Yamaha 60 engine   
  • Installation of a Force 10 propane stove system

This week we are hauled out as we await arrival of the new washer and dryer.  So we are onto the next list of repairs:
  • Replace the stabilizer fins, housing and actuators
  • Repair a crack in the hull near the swim step
  • Identify and resolve a Lazarette water leak
  • Touch-up paint on the top sides
  • Touch-up teak interior blemishes
  • Remove and replace the faux teak finish on the swim step
With these major maintenance items, we have also been working off other little issues such as replacing failed lights, replacing a failed master head vent fan, new toilet seats and fixing loose wiring issues.

August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 25, 2025 - Everett An uneventful return to Everett from Roche Harbor.  As we settled in we were soon greeted by Ron and Gretchen and Lois whipped up a nice meal that lasted well into the evening.   This competed 128 days. 3,580 NM of travel on Raven of which 88 days were in SE Alaska.   A good trip with, unfortunately, too much rain.   We had three boardings: US Coast Guard & Customs and Border Patrol Boarding ADFG Boarding CBSA Boarding   We only had a few minor problems: Windlass minor repair Failing transmission rocker switch Failed washdown pump   Our fishing was salmon focused: 17 Coho 22” – 30” 10 Halibut 20” – 31” 26 Dungeness crabs   We experienced some peripheral events: June 16 - Cruise ship breaking its mooring July 29 – Russian Tsunami Aug 10 - Landslide in Tracy Arm   We were gifted lots of wildlife: Humpback whales display Orca whales display Dahls porpoise Harbor porpoise Seals Sea lions Sea otters River ot...

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
