November 2, 2020 - Haul Out - NEW Finding - JACKPOT

I have been very concerned we would not find the leak that allowed water into the port lazarette, dripping onto our (now removed) 6 kW generator.  With the help from CSR technicians we discussed pulling the cabinetry apart to find the source.

I knew I wanted to drill an access hole from the exterior coaming for other reasons so I suggested we start with that action.  Looking around through the hole - with a borescope - no apparent signs of water.  So with the help of a moisture heater we went around the aft port gate and found the step saturated!  We popped off the Selene step plate and found a recess cut into the hull with saturated caulking and filler material!

Inspecting all the other step plates, we found them secure and proud to the hull where this one was recessed and loose.  Joey cleaned out the water soaked material and started drying the filler.  To make sure we were getting it dry, he drilled a hole  into it to exhibit for me that the lower region is drying.

Plan is to fiberglass over the area, raise the step plate up similar to the other locations and properly caulk it.

It is a surprise to find that this installation was so poorly completed - NOT what I expected to find under this step plate.

Growing list of things not found during survey:
  • Leak path under name plate
  • Corroded terminal buss block
  • Faulty VHF/AIS wiring and failed antenna
  • Gelcoat blisters - no evidence noted during survey
  • Failing bottom paint - reported renewed in the fall of 2019
  • Pitted drive shaft
  • Failing shaft bearings - even though it had been serviced 2015 and 2016
  • Bow thruster wiring issue
  • Stabilizer system in need of significant maintenance even though reported they had been serviced in September 2019
  • Failed Balmar regulator and missing thermal sensor connection

August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
