February 12, 2021 - Hydronic Heater Installation
Well, as we progressed through the boat we continue to have new learnings about Raven. For example, when the thermostat control for the A/C was removed in the bunk room - it was discovered it was not even connected! Or when we did a closer check on the AutoAnchor, we found the sensing wires were - well a mess (see photo). This appears to be poor workmanship associated with the Yacht Controller installation .....
Anyway - today Raven has a dusting of snow on her and we expect more snow this weekend. Progress continues on the hydronic heat installation. With a lot of help from Carl and Mark, we identified an ideal location for the manifold behind a wall in the utility room. And, we found two open conduits to run the 1" water lines from the lazarette to the utility room which is from the heater to the manifold. As an aid in keeping track of the plan, I updated my schematic to reflect the new routing concepts.
In retrospect, it was a good thing that we removed the unused hydraulic hoses for the stabiliizers on November 3! We had four hydraulic hoses (2 port/2 strbd) that were left in place when new hoses were installed with a much shorter routing. Removing the hoses opened up key pathways to avoid undesirable routing solutions for the heater lines.

Growing list of things not found during survey:
- A/C control in bunk room not connected
- AutoAnchor wiring is faulty
- Mystery toggle switch on F/B is for compass/rudder indicator light
- Leak path under name plate
- Corroded terminal buss block
- Faulty VHF/AIS wiring and failed antenna
- Gelcoat blisters - no evidence noted during survey
- Failing bottom paint - reported renewed in the fall of 2019
- Pitted drive shaft
- Failing shaft bearings - even though it had been serviced 2015 and 2016
- Bow thruster wiring issue
- Stabilizer system in need of significant maintenance even though reported they had been serviced in September 2019
- Failed Balmar regulator and missing thermal sensor connection
