June 1, 2021 - Successful Shake Down Cruise
We had a good shake down cruise crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca under a Small Craft Advisory. And we did see wind gust of 30 knots and pounded into some 3' waves for awhile. Raven handled it well with spray coming over our hardtop and making 14 kts at one point!. Within the boat the crew did well, just had a few items jostled around. While a bit lumpier than we hoped, it gave us confidence in the boat and it's handling.
We entered Wescott Bay and found BarbEric and Halcyon at anchor and were shortly followed by Charlevoix. We learned that there had been a sailboat that had drug his anchor during the earlier high winds and he was resting on shore waiting for the tide to float the boat. And we learned a large powerboat had run aground entering the bay - very low tides and tricky entrance.
We got the kayaks, row/sail boat, tender out and enjoyed the time: rowing ,sailing kayaking and a hike at English Camp. English Camp is around the corner in Garrison Bay and it was loaded with over 50 boats all there to enjoy a lovely weekend. While it was nice to be out of that pack, we were in the line of the tenders making a beeline to Westcott Bay Shellfish for lunch - LOTS of tender wake rocking our toys around.
Heading back the conditions were more settled, so we made a stop at Port Ludlow. And the next day it was back to Seattle, into the locks, for a few more items to be completed (side doors and KVH upgrade).
Raven ran well during this cruise with all systems functioning as expected - except for the AutoAnchor. This appears to be a minor set-up issue which should be reminded with a minor re-calibration.
