August 18, 2021 - Naha Bay
This was an unusual stay for us, for some reason it had an eerie feeling. It was a dark and rainy night tied to a dock where bear (and mice?) are free to wander. There were fallen trees along the shore of the dock along with trees threating to fall onto the boat from the shore.
We met a nice couple from Montana who were returning from their hike to the lake. They had taken a skiff from Ketchikan, hiked to the lake to fish, as well as a marriage proposal. They shared they had come across bear on their hike which was enough to make us a bit apprehensive. Instead of a hike, we broke out Nevermore and Lois started up the stream to see the waterfall when suddenly, the fish in the stream would scurry along the surface leaving you wondering: what is happening down there? Come to realize it was likely either a seal feeding or just the presence of the oars disturbing the fish which packed the river.
The next attempt yielded a view of the picnic table along the path, a set of old wooden rail tracks, and a view of the fall with a bald eagle looking for his next meal. Also, across from us was a smaller waterfall where we saw a black bear sow and her two cubs walking across the fallen tree and working the riverbank.
