August 21 to 22, 2021 - Prince Rupert

We had a nice two nights a Prince Rupert.  Robin (Cow Bay Marina) put us in slip 27 which was better protected from waves than being on the breakwater.  We walked the town finding, the interpretive center, shops, the Safeway and BC Liquor stores, and a nice path along the waterfront.  We came across several restaurants that Robin had recommended and come dinner time were already full.  So, we chose Smile’s which was owned and operated by an Asian family.  Well, it was okay…..  Fortunately for the second night we had made reservations at the Crest Hotel.  This was an excellent choice, excellent meal, service, and setting.  Best meal out we have had since Seattle.

While at dock, we completed some cleaning of the boat, with Geary cleaning the topsides and Lois cleaned up the bar-b-que!

Easy departure from Prince Rupert and as we approached the decision point for the inner/outer route, received a note from Carl asking if we had considered the outer route.  I had thought about it, but his suggestion was timely and after a quick discussion, we challenged ourselves to head via the outer route; Ogden Channel, Petrel Channel to Principie Channel.  Besides fighting a bit of current the transit went well until we entered Principie Channel at Anger Island.  We now know why it is Anger Island as we found ourselves into a mix of ocean swells and wind chop from the north – gusts to 27 kts. To get into the channel, we had to take them somewhat abeam and once into the channel we were surfing with them.  Not awful, but there were 3’ seas we were experiencing.  After about 10 miles the conditions settled into a much smoother ride to our destination at Monckton Inlet.
