August 23, 2021 - Mockton Inlet

August 23, 2021 - Mockton Inlet

We chose the middle anchorage and had a lovely setting and lamented how we would like to have time to kayak around the area.  After a steak and corn-on-the-cob dinner, we lowered the tender for a quick tour of our bay and the most inland bay.  Nice little sunset cruise.  And we are getting quicker on lowering and raising the tender!

We woke to dense fog in the morning, although we could see the moon setting behind the surrounding hills.  We slowly made our way out of the harbour to see the conditions in Principe Channel – a bit better – so we slowly made our way south.  The fog lifted somewhat allowing us to increase speed a bit but still a real struggle.  As we reached Otter Channel, we decided to head down the east side of Campania Island through Squally Channel hoping to find better conditions.    Halfway into the channel the fog lifted providing a nice sunny day!  And as we neared McCreight Point we came across a heard of whale’s bubble feeding – spectacular sight.  Turning down Squally Channel we found smooth water conditions and clear sky with light patches of fog.  As we entered Laredo Channel, we continued to follow the fog south and mid-way down the channel found ourselves back into fog again!  We continued into Louisa Cove with moderate swells, we found Orion’s Star at anchor as well.  Dinner was a meat loaf and baked potato prepared while underway and ready once we dropped the hook!

Note:  Fishing in this cove is reported to be excellent!
