August 24, 2021 - Louisa Cove, St. John Harbour

We woke to the continuation of fog/low ceiling but better visibility than the previous morning.  As we headed down Athlone Island towards Cape Mark, we came across a pod of Orca feeding, heading south.

Approaching the north end of Goose Island, we spied an excellent anchorage with a lovely sand beach – something to explore in the future.  As we reached the southern tip of Goose Island, we thought we saw a channel marker – NO – it was an ugly dead head!

We had a pleasant cruise all the way down Queen Charlotte Sound and around Cape Caution with very minor swells and no wind waves.  Then we entered Queen Charlotte Strait and the fog thickened, and the wave chop built, and it became a lumpy ride!  Believing this is a result of the outflow from Slingsby Channel, we went to the west of Storm Islands, down Europa Passage to make our way to Shelter Bay.  As we neared the bay, I had shut off the radar eliminating the radar overlay, making it easier to read the chart.  As we entered the bay, the fog lifted with sunshine to our back making it much easier to make the entrance, see the crab pot floats, and the other boat in the anchorage!
