March 16, 2022 - New Pompanette Helm Chair

March 16, 2022 - New Pompanette Helm Chair

We wanted to have TWO seats on the flybridge so we can sit side by side.  Raven only had one chair in the flybridge and one in the pilot house.  We decided (with Melody's help) that since these two chairs are the same vintage (literally sequential serial numbers) we would re-locate the pilothouse chair to the flybridge giving us seating for two.  We ordered a new Pompanette chair for the pilot house to replace the relocated one.  The order was placed in November with the chair arriving in March!

We expected the mounting holes to be identical making for an easier swap.  While the mounting ring was identical (a relief) the pedestal pattern was slightly different.  This means the holes of the mounting ring to the floor were the same pattern, but the pedestal to the ring were in a slightly larger circumference on the mounting ring.

So, down comes the ceiling liner below the pilot house to get to the bolts of the old mounting ring so we could remove it and install the new mounting ring.  And the old mounting ring now goes to the flybridge with the old pedestal and chair with the new mounting ring, chair and pedestal installed in the pilot house.

It must be noted that ALL the parts to these chairs are heavy and takes a bit of muscle to move them around.  Joe of Miller and Miller completed this effort in less than four hours!
