March 24, 2022 - Art Works

During a trip to Helsinki, Finland many years back we came across a piece of art with which we were intrigued and brought it home.  It has rested in a discrete place at home, however, we thought it time for it to find a more prominent roosting place.  And now our Kotka roost on board Raven.

Kotka  (Eagle in Finnish)

We may have shared these on previous posts but here as a review of the art works keeping our Kotka company.

Ruffles

This is Ruffles from J1 pod of Orca and could be easily identified by his ruffled dorsal fin.  It is estimated he lived to be at least 60 years old and has not been seen since 2010.  We found this bronze piece in a gallery in Poulsbo.

Raven Flight

Raven Flight is made from Corten Steel by artist Barry Herem.  We worked with Stonington Gallery and the artist to obtain a special edition scaled to fit in Raven's salon.

Raven - traditional Northwest Coast paddle

While cruising SE Alaska we had decided we wanted a piece of native American art work for Raven and specifically it needed to be a carved paddle in the name of Raven.  We came across this piece in Juneau and it is crafted by Jason Vonda, a Tlingit Native of the Wooshkeetaan, Eagle-Shark clan.

Brass Sun

Being fond of Sun Valley, Idaho - Admiral Lois found this brass piece in Poulsbo and thought it appropriate to adorn our salon with this reminder of a place of fond memories.

Montage

This collection ranges from art pieces to a postage stamp - all Ravens - found on our recent trip to SE Alaska.

Photo of Moonstruck

This last piece is a framed article given to us by our daughter Christine.  It is a photo of our prior boat, Moonstruck, taken at anchor during a misty morning in SE Alaska.  It was selected to be published in the Seattle Times!

This concludes a tour of the art works on board (to date .....)
