April 17, 2022 - Final Checkouts

April 17, 2022 - Final Checkouts

I had performed a software update on the Garmin system over the weekend and thought I should check it out before we leave.  So I powered up the chart plotters and found we were now in the Gulf of Guinea!

Being a somewhat astute navigator, I was fairly confident this was not our location.  Fortunately, Garmin technical support has been very good.  In my prior calls to them to discuss the system, its was recommended to power down the system, not just turn it off, but to shut off power.  Then after about 10 seconds - power it back up.  The recommendation was to due this periodically and it may be appropriate to perform after software updates.

After performing this little operation - VoilĂ  - I have now instantaneously traveled across the Atlantic, across the United States, and am now back in the Puget Sound with all systems working normally.

Always good to check the system out after updates.  Last time I was missing part of my autopilot.  And after powering down and restarting - all was restored.  This was not as pleasant as we were underway when I performed this reset.  MUCH better to do at the dock before getting under way.

Power reset moved me across the globe - beam me up Scotty!
