April 25 to April 29, 2022 -  Travel from Roche Harbor to Blunden Harbour

We left for South East Alaska on April 25 with a comfortable crossing of Haro Strait where we came across a pod of Orca and a humpback whale.  We cleared customs at Van Isle, B.C. and continued on to Kendrick Island where we anchored for the night.

April 26 was a straight shot up the Strait of Georgia to Gorge Harbour.  The seas and weather were calm until we approached Campbell River where we could see bit squalls coming in from the west.  While we had intended to go further, we decided to duck into Gorge Harbour before the squall arrived.  Turned out to be a good call as we had wind gusts of 27 knots and a down pour of rain.  Fortunately we had just set the anchor when all this hit.

The morning of the 27th was calm and sunny so we pressed on to our intended destination of Octopus Islands.  We were the first one into the group, where. two other boats eventually joined us - all spaced well apart.  We had a lovely anchorage and calm morning worthy of a kayak ride.  We put the two kayaks into the water and toured the bay making a stop at the cabin with all the talismans.  During our stay we spotted a deer on one of the islets and seals in the bay feeding.

The morning of the 28th, we could see that the reported weather was changing and did not want to be weather in Octopus for a few days AND it was very favorable weather to make the trek up Johnstone Passage.  So we decided to press on towards the Broughtons.  As we neared Blackney Passage, the weather and sea state were so favorable we decided to press on into Queen Charlotte Strait towards Cape Caution, stopping at Blunden Harbour where we stayed two nights with wind gusts of 31 knots and rain.  We did managed to get a tender ride in around the bay, and into the lagoon, before the weather turned nasty.

Our project manager, Ian, checked in with us first thing on Monday.  Ian promply started introducing us to the leads responsible for the work packages.  The whole process was very professional with good collaboration.  I was able to walk through each item of my list with the appropriate lead and discuss details.  Immediately after being hauled out we had people on the boat starting work on various projects. August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 25, 2025 - Everett An uneventful return to Everett from Roche Harbor.  As we settled in we were soon greeted by Ron and Gretchen and Lois whipped up a nice meal that lasted well into the evening.   This competed 128 days. 3,580 NM of travel on Raven of which 88 days were in SE Alaska.   A good trip with, unfortunately, too much rain.   We had three boardings: US Coast Guard & Customs and Border Patrol Boarding ADFG Boarding CBSA Boarding   We only had a few minor problems: Windlass minor repair Failing transmission rocker switch Failed washdown pump   Our fishing was salmon focused: 17 Coho 22” – 30” 10 Halibut 20” – 31” 26 Dungeness crabs   We experienced some peripheral events: June 16 - Cruise ship breaking its mooring July 29 – Russian Tsunami Aug 10 - Landslide in Tracy Arm   We were gifted lots of wildlife: Humpback whales display Orca whales display Dahls porpoise Harbor porpoise Seals Sea lions Sea otters River ot...

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
