April 30 to May 6, 2022 - Travel from Blunden Harbour to Ketchikan
April 30 presented a weather window to round Cape Caution, so we got an early start and headed out before the next frontal system would pass through. We were in a rhythm of repositioning the boat between systems! And we were glad we made the rounding on the 30th as the seas were flat, the winds light and the sun was out! It was a fantastically smooth rounding - so much so that Lois just sat in the tender and took in some sun while we were under way! We have a favorite little bay we like called Forit Bay where we dropped the hook. The next morning we woke to clouds and light showers, however we were both able to take the row boat for a tour around the bay before the heavy rain arrived. Next system was arriving .... We spent two nights here waiting out the next system although all we had was rain - winds were light in our little bay. And we got to watch the river otters move about the bay.

May 2 offered clearing weather so we made out way, cautiously, through Gun Boat Passage and on towards Shearwater. Another calm and sunny day - one that gave us a visitor on our bow pulpit - a raven! As we continued on in Mathieson channel we were greeted by a pod of Dalls porpoise riding our bow wave. Arriving at Rescue Bay we were the sole boat and had the pick of anchorages. We got the kayaks out for a tour of the bay. After our tour we hauled up the boats as there was another system coming through that we would wait our here for the next couple of days. And this system dumped rain and brought occasional 15 knot wind gusts. While waiting out this system we were treated to a heard of seals in the bay frolicking about.

Checking weather it looked like a good weather window to cross Dixon Entrance was going to be Friday, May 6 inspiring us to move along and position ourselves for the crossing. We left Rescue Bay on May 4 and headed up towards the Grenville Channel and East Inlet. Along the way we were treated to another raven landing on the bow, a pod of Dolls porpoise riding our bow wave, a pair of fin whales and four humpback whales. It was an easy, but long trek to get to East Inlet.

East Inlet is a well protected anchorage and offered a peaceful nights rest. We woke to a clearing sky and ready to move to Dundas Island, positioning ourselves for the Dixon Entrance crossing on May 6. Heading our of the inlet, we had a lovely sunrise and calm, sunny conditions for our trek to Dundas Island.
