While we enjoyed our time at Petersburg, it was great to get off the dock.  We needed to work our way back to Wrangell as we have a flight home on the 28th to take care of business.  So, back down the Wrangell Narrows to Sumner Strait and the Prince of Whales Island an Exchange Cove.

We went there as it was reported that there was crabbing in the bay.  We became suspicious about the report as we started to spot sea otters along the way.  A local in Petersburg had shared that the sea otters take out the clam and crabs in a bay they inhabit.  We were well along our way and decided to give it a try.  

It was a pleasant cove with sea otters, seals and bird life occupying the bay.  We gave our crabbing a try and set out the pots for two nights, one with cat food and the other with a chicken leg.  The jury is in and cat food is zero, the chicken leg brought in a small halibut (released) and a Rose Star.

We did take time to tender around Exchange Island and considered a beach landing.  Realizing how foul the shoreline is, we abandoned the beach walk.  We also tried halibut fishing outside the cove finding the bottom to be very rocky and gave up after a couple of try's.

Time to move on to Wrangell and prepare for a flight home!

August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 25, 2025 - Everett An uneventful return to Everett from Roche Harbor.  As we settled in we were soon greeted by Ron and Gretchen and Lois whipped up a nice meal that lasted well into the evening.   This competed 128 days. 3,580 NM of travel on Raven of which 88 days were in SE Alaska.   A good trip with, unfortunately, too much rain.   We had three boardings: US Coast Guard & Customs and Border Patrol Boarding ADFG Boarding CBSA Boarding   We only had a few minor problems: Windlass minor repair Failing transmission rocker switch Failed washdown pump   Our fishing was salmon focused: 17 Coho 22” – 30” 10 Halibut 20” – 31” 26 Dungeness crabs   We experienced some peripheral events: June 16 - Cruise ship breaking its mooring July 29 – Russian Tsunami Aug 10 - Landslide in Tracy Arm   We were gifted lots of wildlife: Humpback whales display Orca whales display Dahls porpoise Harbor porpoise Seals Sea lions Sea otters River ot...

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
