We had an easy cruise to Wrangell, staying clear of a Princess cruise ship, Princess Ruby, in Snow Passage, rounding Zarembo Island and making our way up Stikine Strait to Wrangell. Settled in a corner of the transient dock and gave the boat a wash down.
The next day we bicycled into town, checked in with the harbormaster, and found the IGA grocery store. Upon our return we struck up a conversation with a couple of local commercial fishermen who were offloading 6,000 lbs of halibut. One of the fellows, Max Florschutz, graduated college with a journalism degree and is an author. We look forward to finding his book, “COLONY” and giving it a read. They were kind enough to share with us three large halibut cheeks of which we only needed one for dinner, saving the other two for a later meal.
We also met Charlie from the steel ketch Hon Vi (Hopi) who was a CPA at the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-Op. We had a nice conversation, learning how his boat was rebuilt at the Co-Op after a fire resulting from a failed Balmar regulator.
