June 30,  2022 -Pybus Bay/Cannery Cove

We had left our anchorage at 7:30 AM and spent an hour cruising about to find the 60’ flat top to anchor and fish.  We hung out there for two hours before pressing on to Stephens Passage, up West Channel (spotting a sea otter) to Pybus Bay and into Cannery Cove.  As we rounded the corner, past the beautiful Pybus Point Lodge, we were immediately struck by the gorgeous setting with a large mountain bowl at the head of the cove.  The black flies were not too much of a nuisance so we both took turns rowing about and checking out the meadow at the head of the cove.  After witnessing the lodge, and other boaters, collect/place their crab pots, we put our two pots out for an overnight soak.

 

The next morning, we lowered the tender and retrieved our pots.  One had three crabs and the other two, along with a small halibut.  We let the halibut and three crabs go (female/soft shells) and kept two crabs.  After dispatching the two crabs, and cooking, we noticed a fleet of 7 boats headed our way – a charter flotilla.  We got the pots back out before they arrived and watched the anchoring entertainment.  After things settled down, we lowered the kayaks for a tour of the cove.  After a dinner of fresh crab and bread, Geary got one more row in before we settled in for the night.

 

The next morning, we woke to watch the flotilla depart and enjoyed a wonderful crab omelet.  Retrieved the crab posts, 1 keeper (kind of soft shell) and 1 female with a halibut.  Release everything …..  Evening kayak ride – eaten alive by no-see-ums – get back to the boat!

Our project manager, Ian, checked in with us first thing on Monday.  Ian promply started introducing us to the leads responsible for the work packages.  The whole process was very professional with good collaboration.  I was able to walk through each item of my list with the appropriate lead and discuss details.  Immediately after being hauled out we had people on the boat starting work on various projects. August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 25, 2025 - Everett An uneventful return to Everett from Roche Harbor.  As we settled in we were soon greeted by Ron and Gretchen and Lois whipped up a nice meal that lasted well into the evening.   This competed 128 days. 3,580 NM of travel on Raven of which 88 days were in SE Alaska.   A good trip with, unfortunately, too much rain.   We had three boardings: US Coast Guard & Customs and Border Patrol Boarding ADFG Boarding CBSA Boarding   We only had a few minor problems: Windlass minor repair Failing transmission rocker switch Failed washdown pump   Our fishing was salmon focused: 17 Coho 22” – 30” 10 Halibut 20” – 31” 26 Dungeness crabs   We experienced some peripheral events: June 16 - Cruise ship breaking its mooring July 29 – Russian Tsunami Aug 10 - Landslide in Tracy Arm   We were gifted lots of wildlife: Humpback whales display Orca whales display Dahls porpoise Harbor porpoise Seals Sea lions Sea otters River ot...

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
