July 3, 2022 - Takatz Bay
We had an easy transit, coming across a heard of humpback whales feeding near Carroll Island (SE tip of Admiralty Island). We shut the motor down and drifted, watching the whales bubble feed, with one surfacing the opposite side of the boat. Had to have gone around/under us! After drifting pass the whales, we motored onto Takatz.
Entering we were the sole boat and anchored near the water fall at the entrance of the bay. Lois got a row in around the bay before we tried our luck at halibut fishing. Shortly, a series of kayaks came into the bay from Admiralty Dream (39m) anchored outside the bay. THEN Serengeti (40 m), El Ray (34m) and Blackwood (32m) entered the bay. Serengeti was quick to get a jet ski in the water and tear up the bay with El Ray soon to follow.
Next day the circus continues …. And then they pulled out around 10:30 leaving the bay in peace. Discussing float plans we decided that we should press on to Tenakee – so up came the anchor, and as we exited, Chichagof Dream (63m) pulled in with the next load of kayaks. Seems Takatz is a popular stop for large yachts and small cruise ships.
