August 10,  2022 - Cordero Islands

We had a calm passage as we made our way down Johnstone Strait with Lois catching site of a partial rainbow as we entered Sunderland Channel on the way to Forward Harbour.  Passing our preferred anchorage, two sailboats anchored there making our decision to press on to Cordero Islands a good one.

We had been fighting current until we reached Whirlpool Rapids, but from there on, we were going with the current reaching 14 kts through Green Point Rapids (at reduced throttle) and arriving before max flood.  Pulling into the anchorage we found a sister Selene, Raindancer, at anchor.  As we set out our kayaks, Mike and Kathy from Raindancercame by for a brief chat.  After kayaking around the anchorage, a mist/fog started to settle in over the rapids and anchorage making for a nice photo of Raindancer.

The next day we took the tender out fishing at Greene Point during the tide change using a lure and a couple of small weights.  We trolled along for almost an hour, ready to give it up, when a nice 24” Coho took the bait.  We successfully landed the fish, using the small net and a fender, kept it in the bow until we could get back to Raven to finish him off.  After cleaning we filleted the fish, cooked the fillet over the BBQ, and had fresh cooked salmon for dinner.

As we prepared to leave for our next stop, we spotted river otters along the shore and a black bear working the shoreline.
