August 13,  2022 - Maud Island

We had initially planned to stay the night at Kanesh Bay and make the early slack at Seymour Narrows in the morning, anchoring in the Kanesh nook at 1:30 PM.   Since the newly installed black water pump appeared not to be working, we took time to trouble shoot checking for blockages and tank level.  After checking for other possibilities, we concluded the pump had failed and may have been the result of running dry for 2 hours.

After replacing the pump and cleaning up, we considered the conditions down Discovery passage and realized we had a slack at 7:25 that we could make.  Considering it could be foggy in the morning we decided to reposition and get through the narrows, stopping at Maud Island.  We pulled anchor about 6:00 PM and headed for the narrows and slack.  While underway we had a nice salmon dinner before reaching the narrows.  As we made the narrows at slack, we went around behind Maud Island and anchored in ~70’ of calm water.

The bottom was rocky, and it took a bit to get the anchor to set.  With settled conditions, we had no problems and a peaceful night.
