August 17,  2022 - Octopus Islands

We departed early from Campbell River to make sure we could make the slack at Beazly Passage.  Our plan had been a stop at Rebecca Spit, but we thought we could rendezvous with Dennis and Nikki on Scooter who were anchored in Octopus Islands.  As we passed Rebecca Spit we were glad we pressed on as it was loaded with a lot of boats.  We had favorable current along the route, so we slowed the boat down however, we still arrived about 30 minutes early.  The water in the passage did not look turbulent so we chose to motor through against the current.  Only concern we came across was coming too close to the ledge where Turko rock reides.  As we continued up Okisollo Channel we spotted Scooter enroute to Rebecca Spit!  We had a nice chat as we passed and agreed to rendezvous at Gorge Harbour in two days.

We were surprised to find our favorite little anchorage spot in the Islands vacant making anchoring easy.  As we were setting our anchor a small sloop, Eagle (Poulsbo Yacht Club), pulled in and mistakenly ran right into the rock in this nook.   They were able to back off and moved on into the larger bay.  In talking with the lady from the boat while kayaking, we learned that her husband took a fall when they hit and banged up his shoulder, but they and the boat seem to be doing fine.

We got the boats out and went for a long kayak ride around the area.  And we took the tender out into the channel visiting Hole-in-the-Wall and looping back around into Waiatt Bay.

The next day we did the 3-mile round trip up to Newton Lake.   Returning it was time for a nice cool margarita and quesadillas!
