May 21 & 22, 2023 - Turnbull Cove
Geary gave Raven a quick washdown to remove the salt spray from our Johnstone transit before we left in the morning. And we left under calm, but misty weather with poor visibility. The mist/light rain gave a finishing rinse to Raven as we made our way down Chatham Channel.
We elected to take the back route, using Tribune Channel to get to the Boughton’s. This provided calm conditions for our trip. There was a melancholy feeling as we passed by Kwatsi, reflecting on the visits with Max and Anka. As a bonus though, we finally got to see Lacy Falls with water streaming down it! We continued to Sutlej Channel and past Sullivan Bay, reflecting on the times we had there as well.
Checking weather, we may need to wait three or four days to round Cape Caution in more settled conditions as waves are currently forecast at 6’ to 9’ in the Central Coast area for the next couple of days.
Inside Turnbull Cove, we both rowed around the cove with Lois spotting a small black bear at the shoreline near the trailhead to the lake. She could make out a couple of bare patches on its buttocks as though it had been bitten.
We lowered the tender and took a ride back to Little Nimmo Bay where we motored past the Resort after three float planes had left. We were greeted by Fraser Murray who invited us ashore to tour the facility before guest arrive later in the afternoon. After touring the dining area, Fraser handed us off to his father, Craig Murray, who toured us through the original (and remodeled) social area, the spa and past the cabins. Craig shared that he started the facility in 1981 as a fishing lodge but has now evolved it into a wellness and outdoor adventure facility (spa, helicopters, and boats). It was indeed a lovely facility that was well maintained and quite the treat to be able to tour the facility.
