 May 27, 2023 - East Inlet

The trek was a bit of a challenge as we seemed to fight a current much of the way.  Leaving Khutze, with Butedale indicating an ebb tide, suggested we may be going with the current as we headed toward Wright Sound.  Instead, we were going against a small current the entire journey.  As we passed Butedale, we thought of Shawn and his efforts at restoring the area and took in the view of the magnificent waterfalls of Butedale.  When we reached Kingcome Point, the winds picked up gusting 27 kts, but soon settled down as we made our way towards Mckay Reach, with the wind waves flattening out.  It is in this area where we encountered a pair of Dahls porpoise that found our boat and surfed along the bulb for a few minutes before departing.  We made our way across Wright Sound under calm conditions and entered Greenville Channel, against the current, even though the tide was flooding in Wright Sound.  After a bit of a slog, we made it to East Inlet where the winds were once again blowing from the northwest in the 20+ kt range.  We settled into the north corner with a peaceful anchorage soon to be joined by the sloop, Mary Emma.
