May 28, 2023 - Brundige Inlet
We left East Inlet under calm conditions and light gray skies/fog on an ebb tide. This transit worked out as expected, traveling with the ebb current and making up to 10 kts in Chatham Sound. Sea conditions remained calm until the afternoon wind picked up as we neared Lucy Islands where we had ocean swells from the west and wind gusts in the 20+ kts from the southwest making for very lumpy conditions. As we neared the Green Island Lighthouse, we had a new challenge of a squall passing through giving us 27 kt gusts and rain with low visibility. This soon settled down as we came out of Holliday Passage and rounded Holliday Rock as the wind and tide (just TTF) were in unison along with the swells. We easily made our way into the first bay, where only one other boat was at anchor – plenty of room for us to drop the hook and settle for the night.
