May 4, 2023 - Deep Cove Yacht Club

As we left in the morning, Howe Sound had a 15kt wind inflow but as we exited to Strait of Georgia the winds were minimal – quite a dramatic change.  We made our way into Vancouver Harbour near slack and progressed to Deep Cove. We did lower the mast as we crossed under the Second Narrows RR Bridge as it was down, and clearance is indicated at 10.8m (~35’) and we are 36’ to the top of the antennas.  

 

We tied up at the DCYC dock where Karl was ready to help tie us up!  The day was sunny with 15kt gusts, however, docking went smoothly.  We had a great time visiting on the dock and checking out Par Coeur, although Karl and Allison are not satisfied with the new canvas that is replacing the damaged canvas from the December snowfall.  Since Karl and Allison were going to fix another fantastic dinner on Friday, we offered to host dinner at Arms Reach Bistro.

 

Friday came and it was time for us to move off the DCYC dock in preparation for Sailpast.  We found a nice, although 80’ deep, spot to anchor and got all settled in when a Park Ranger boat came by and told us that Deep Cove is a “Designated Anchorage Area” and that we would need to move – no anchoring allowed. There are recently placed mooring buoys but the size limit for them was stated at 50’.

August 25, 2025 - Everett

August 25, 2025 - Everett An uneventful return to Everett from Roche Harbor.  As we settled in we were soon greeted by Ron and Gretchen and Lois whipped up a nice meal that lasted well into the evening.   This competed 128 days. 3,580 NM of travel on Raven of which 88 days were in SE Alaska.   A good trip with, unfortunately, too much rain.   We had three boardings: US Coast Guard & Customs and Border Patrol Boarding ADFG Boarding CBSA Boarding   We only had a few minor problems: Windlass minor repair Failing transmission rocker switch Failed washdown pump   Our fishing was salmon focused: 17 Coho 22” – 30” 10 Halibut 20” – 31” 26 Dungeness crabs   We experienced some peripheral events: June 16 - Cruise ship breaking its mooring July 29 – Russian Tsunami Aug 10 - Landslide in Tracy Arm   We were gifted lots of wildlife: Humpback whales display Orca whales display Dahls porpoise Harbor porpoise Seals Sea lions Sea otters River ot...

August 18, 2025 - Gowland Harbour We got a good start and made our transit through Seymour Narrows near slack, making our way to Gowlland Harbour where we found many boats at anchor, including  Hodor  and  Lonian  (owned by Lorenzo Fertittta).   Hodor  is the “supply ship” to  Lonian  carrying all sorts of toys.  The next morning, we exchanged greetings with  Harvest Moon  who had anchored late in the afternoon the previous day.
