June 19, 2023 - Couverden Island Cove

After two lovely days in the North Arm, we parted from Ellipsis and headed back to Mud Bay for another round of fishing.    But before leaving Dundas Bay though we made a pass through the Southwest Arm and view the Brady Glacier – a magnificent sight and glad we took time for the look.  Care was called for as the bottom quickly shoaled as we approached the head of the bay.  Our next stop was Mud Bay, after slowing and diverting to the aft of a Glacier Bay bound cruise ship to allow them to traverse our course, arriving just after the tide change.  We fished from 9:23 AM until 11:30 AM with Lois pulling in a ~20” halibut.  We hauled anchor and headed to Couverden in search for another opportunity to fish the area.  After checking out a couple of locations, we decided that we did not like the bottom we found and headed into Swanson Bay.  After surveying Swanson Bay and not finding a suitable anchorage, we decided to try Couverden Island Cove.  We found the path laid out in Douglas to be adequate and followed the recommended course.  The anchorage was much better with a good bottom and lots of swing room – very pleasant.

The next morning, while at anchor, we decided to put a hook out to see if we could catch a halibut – and pulled up a Rock Prickelback.    Not knowing what to do we cut the line and let the fish go
