June 3, 2023 - Yes Bay

We easily slipped the mooring buoy and headed up Behm Canal under calm conditions.  As we made our way north, we could see why Misty Fiords has it name; to the east there was mist covering the mountains and to the west we had broken skies and patches of blue over Revillagigedo Island.  Making our way north we spotted seals lounging on rocks along the shoreline and Dahl’s porpoise as we neared Point Whaley.  Heading west through Behm Narrows, a black bear was spotted grazing along the shoreline.  We entered Yes Bay, heading for the Southwest Basin only to find a barge sitting there – it looked like a storage barge for the nearby lodge.  We decided to head for the north basin and attempted to anchor behind the islets but found the bottom rocky and could not get a good set with the anchor.  We turned to the north end of the basin and set anchor there, however, wind came up turning us in the opposite direction of the wind, so we pulled anchor and set it for a third time, just as a rain squall passed through.  Soon the squall passed, and conditions settled to a pleasant evening to which we both got a short row into the inner harbor area after diner and were surprised at how dark the water appeared – dark brown, almost black.
