July 16, 2023 - Flynn Cove

We had a late start due to morning fog.  We headed to Dundas with the idea of trolling along the west bank, but wind gusts were 38 kts.  Concerned that when the tide changed, the waves would build, we decided to head to Mud Bay for halibut fishing.  En-route two whales surfaced within 100 feet of the boat, heading at us broadside.  The throttle was quickly cut to slow our speed and they also turned to parallel our course surfacing two more times, within ~50’, before going deep.   We continued to Mudd Bay and fished for 2 hours, catching 3 halibut (releasing one) and 1 rockfish (also released).  After fishing we moved on towards our anchorage, and as we passed Point Adolphous, we spotted a whale breaching several times.  Arriving at our anchorage, it was time for cleaning and preparing the halibut for a fresh dinner.
