Weighed anchor early to make sure we had plenty of water under the keel as we left Couverden. As we made our way out to Lynn Canal, winds were 15 kts with 2’ seas, an easy cruise to Pavlof. Suspect several boats headed north had just left the anchorage. Upon our arrival only Snowgoose was in the harbor and was planning to leave soon (mini cruise ship we had seen in Juneau). Several crab pots lined the bay eliminating some areas for anchorage, but we found a location near Snowgoose. Lowered the kayaks and headed out of the cove along the shore towards the east. As we made our way along the shore, we landed the kayaks to inspect a beached tender and to walk the beach which consists of a fine red gravel. We continued east in the kayaks and came across a small steam of bubbles which was coming from an underwater hot spring! Returning to the harbor we headed for the waterfall where we spotted a brown bear foraging. By the time we returned to Raven, a 2-mile kayak trip, there were five other boats in the harbor, one of which was a Selene, Jade.

The next day SaltHeart arrived and rafted to Raven, after catching two nice halibut at a ridge at the mouth of Freshwater Bay. We had a lovely evening and a wonderful halibut dinner that Theresa prepared. We set plans for the next day to rendezvous in Tenakee Springs and crab together with a follow-on rendezvous to go into Fords Terror!
