July 25, 2023 - Honey Dew - Back-up

We departed Gut Bay leaving a mini-cruise ship and kayakers (arrived the night before) behind.  Our plan was to stop at the tip of Kuiu Island to fish for halibut at a location shared by SaltHeart arriving a slack.  As we approached, we saw boats trolling along a ridge at Kingsmill Point.  As we made our way towards Hourigan Point, the fish boats repositioned to this area, same area we were headed, but a bit further out.  After a 1 ½ hr of fishing, in 90’ of water, we had come up with four “chicks”, two we released and two we kept (could not get the hooks free).  At this point the current was picking up and we were disappointed with having to keep the two “chicks”.  We then made out way to Honey Dew Cove, and since the boat ahead of us reached it first, we chose the backup anchorage - which worked well as we had a wonderful view out to Frederick Sound.  Geary cleaned the “chicks” and we had halibut bites for dinner.
