We left Gowlland Harbour, transiting between Gowlland Island and Steep Island, heading to Discovery Harbour. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by Allison, followed by Sandy and Dan (Sandana) who were opposite us on the dock. We quickly tidied up the boat and prepared to head off with Karl and Allison to his cousin’s home. Cousin Roger and Peggy were soon at the dock and after a tour of Raven, drove us to their lovely home in south Campbell River overlooking Cape Mudge. Allison prepared another fantastic meal with Karl barbequing a pork loin. After a fun evening of chatting, it was back to the boats as we needed to prep for a 6:00 AM fish charter.

We arose early the next day, grab our provisions, and headed off to meet our new guide, Joel. Off we went on his Grady White to Francisco Point where we fished with a bunch of other boats for about an hour before heading down Sutil Channel and fishing along the east coast of Quadra Island south between the Point and Rebecca Spit. Fishing. All the salmon fishing involved pulling a plug, via downrigger at ~200’ through bait balls. We started catching fish right away, with Lois catching a King (we released – wanting a larger catch) and a dog fish! In about an hour we had landed two nice size King and moved down the Channel to focus on Coho, getting away from the crowd. We did well here catching our limit in about another hour. At this point we had three Kings (1 on the guide) and four Coho and decided to try for ling cod. We headed back to Cape Mudge and trolled here with a flasher and hoochie for ling cod. We pulled up two small ling cod and a couple of salmon – all released – at which time we decided to call it. Back at the dock by about 11:30 AM where Joel cleaned the fish. Getting back to the boat with our two King and four Coho, we spent the next two – three hours finishing the fish and vacuum bagging. From there it was off to a shower and a nice dinner at Harbour Grill.
