August 26, 2023 - Tribune Bay

We had a pleasant departure from Discovery Harbour, down the Strait of Georgia, passing through Lambert Channel to Tribune Bay.  As we traveled the Strait, we had humpback whales’ surface nearby!  We stopped the boat and watched the pair before they decided to go deep.  Almost had the feeling they were watching us as well.  We continued to Hornby Island with the smoke haze from the BC fires making for low visibility conditions and difficult to distinguish much of the shoreline until we approached Comox.  As we entered Tribune Bay, it lived up to our expectations.  With a hot, sunny (although hazy) day, there were numerous boats in the bay as well as crowded beaches – all having a good time in these summer conditions.  We lowered the tender and took a cruise through the bay, counting at least 74 boats of various sizes anchored in the bay!  As we prepared for dinner, the haze had become so dense, it looked like a thick fog outside the bay!
