August 27, 2023 - Kendrick Island
We had calm conditions as we travelled down the Strait of Georgia, where we saw humpback whales again, through Ballenas Channel and the Flat Top Island group to Kendrick Island anchorage. Our only navigation challenge was the Queen of Oak Bay ferry which was on a crossing path on our port. Hailed them on both Ch 13 and 16 – no response. Held our curse in accordance with Colregs as the stand-on vessel and they altered course to our stern. After anchoring we took turns going for a row about the bay. Lois went first, and upon her return we found a log had t-bone itself against our anchor chain, pinned there with over 2 knots of current holding it in place! We took the challenge of dislodging it rather than waiting for slack. Geary was in the rowboat, stern to one side of the log and Lois with the boat hook on the other as we rotated it off the chain!
