August 28, 2023 - Tumbo Island

We had a lumpy departure from Kendrick Island to the Strait of Georgia which soon settled as the flood tide continued to build, in concert with the swells, making for an easy trek down the strait to Tumbo Island.  We anchored in the channel between Cabbage and Tumbo Islands west of the mooring buoys in about 30 feet of water in settled conditions.  There were open buoys that were eventually taken by other smaller boats.  And room for a couple of other boats to anchor nearby – one being Stella Marris which was the boat Carl and Melody had crewed to Mexico!  The afternoon was spent on housekeeping chores, and lowering the tender, as we watched the skies cloud over anticipating rain and possible thunder/lightning based on the days forecast.  Indeed, the rain squalls arrived with thunder and lightning through the night.

The next day we woke to continuing rain squalls and occasional thunder.  In the later morning there was a break in the rain, with occasional thunder.  We decided to take the tender for a tour of the bay and a walk on the island which we managed to complete as the next squall arrived.  Waiting back at Raven for the rain to ease.  This took us to the next morning before we finally raised the tender to make our trek across the border.
