August 30, 2023 - Roche Harbor
With the skies clearing we raised the tender, raised anchor, and headed north around Tumbo Island making sure to keep a substantial distance to the east of the tip of Saturna Island as we rounded it from the north in compliance with the BC Southern Resident Killer Whale Sanctuary Zone. From there it was an easy cruise to the border, obtaining our clearance with discarding of our citrus fruit overboard as required by the agent. Cutting through the Cactus Islands and around Spieden, we entered the Roche Harbor. Immediately we spotted Orca just inside the harbor, we slowed the boat and made a Securite call to alert boaters behind us to slow and keep their distance. We idled the boat and watched the adult and calves make their way towards Mosquito Pass after which we made our way to dock. As we tied up, a couple of fellows walked by looking at Raven. We soon learned that it was Joel Diamond, formerly with Sinbad, now with a new boat, Popeye. We had a nice chat about our last meeting at Kwatsi. We settled in, did a bit more housekeeping chores before heading off to a nice dinner at McMillans.
