August 4, 2023 - Snug Harbor

Before leaving, Mare shared lovely breakfast treats she had made the night before, we cast off lines, and headed for our fishing spot in Clarence Strait.  Arriving close to slack, we still had a bit of current as we dropped the anchor at 9:20 AM.  We fished for about an hour and after catching two rockfish, decided to reposition.  Our only other catch was a 24” halibut which Geary cleaned while we left our lines out hoping for another catch.  Moonstruck had pulled anchor and tried drifting while fishing to no avail.  Needless to say – we were disappointed that Moonstruck was skunked.  At 12:30 PM we said our farewells and headed to our next anchorage.  We were watching the weather for Dixon Entrance and decided to press south towards Ketchikan with a plan to cross Dixon Entrance on Sunday, which had a good weather window.  We considered meeting Ellipsis at Myers Chuck, however, with our late arrival time we stayed with our plan of Snug Harbor and would meet Ellipsis on Saturday in Ketchikan.  Our trip down Clarence Strait had a bit of drama as Fish and Holly, tender to Teak and Holly, was having challenges with their engine and then the wind waves resulting in Teak and Holly back tracking to rendezvous with the tender.  And a small fish boat was seeking help from a buddy boat due to their low fuel condition.  These two dramas were resolved before we made our way into Snug Harbor for a quite night alone in the harbor.
