May 13, 2024 - Discovery Harbour

We headed out into Hakai. Passage from Pruth Bay to evaluate taking the outer route.  After thrashing about for a while, we decided to change direction and take the inside route.  Traveling down Hakai Passage, we passed several sea otters!  Turning north up Fitz Hugh Sound, we came across a humpback whale as we neared Lama Passage.  Next encounter was a close call with a log, that turned out to be a deer swimming across Lama Passage near Cliff Buff.  As we rounded the corner towards Bella Bella, Geary heard a sound, perhaps Lois calling from below decks, only to realize it was a raven sitting on the kayak making the sound!  The raven moved on to the bow pulpit before flying away.  The next encounter was courtesy of a CG cutter.  We hailed the CG cutter to let them know about a deer that may be in distress around the point.

They shared they had spotted a black bear at Story Point!  The rest of the trip to Discovery Harbor went smoothly.  We anchored in the east finger and enjoyed a peaceful night.
