July 19, 2024 - Pybus
We left under calm conditions, after a night of hard rain, and headed to Pybus. We stopped at the same location where we previously caught halibut and fished for two hours. Lois came up with two small rockfish (which we let go) – no halibut! We called it and headed to our anchorage. As we settled in and had another Coho and crab dinner, the 6 kW sucked up a sea nettle and shut down! As Geary finished cleaning up the sea strainer and checking the generator, Lois spotted bears along the shoreline.
Waking the next morning, we spotted the bears roaming the shoreline again! Two came out together with another single bear following – it appeared that they were not of the same social group as they kept their distance.
During the morning, Lois had been in touch with Jimmy and the hospital where he had been taken due to a fall on Thursday. Conversations were not encouraging so we made the decision to get to Petersburg ASAP where she could fly home on Sunday.
