July 28 - 30, 2024 - Wrangell
We woke to dense fog which began to lift by mid-morning. We the fog lifting we headed out to fish outside St. John Harbor where we saw other anglers fishing. We gave it a good two hours casting into areas where we had sonar readings – no luck. With that, we headed to Wrangell, settled in and took care of housekeeping chores in preparation for Jennifer and Taylor’s arrival the next day.
Jennifer and Taylor flight went well however the Wrangell taxi service was swamped due to a 2,000-passenger cruise ship at dock, and a smaller one at anchor. This had the effect of doubling the population of Wrangell and getting a ride to the marina became a challenge. Fortunately, a lodge van was kind enough to give them a lift to the marina. Once settled in, it was lunch and a walk into town.
The next day it was our trip to Anan with Sylvia of Alaska Vistas in weather that was a light drizzle with occasional breaks. It was a good trip, although, there were not yet the number of bears and eagles at the Wildlife Observatory as we had seen two years previously in August. Still, it was an amazing experience of viewing the black bears in their natural setting.
