August 20, 2024 - Althrop Point, Hardwicke Island
As we left port, we headed into a fog bank which lifted as we cleared Alert Bay giving us clear view down Johnstone Strait – water and conditions flat calm. As we neared Blackney Passage, Lois spotted an Orca! Radio traffic reported there a pod on the other side of Hanson Island! We continued under calm conditions finding our anchorage spot available. Soon after dropping the anchor, we were joined by over two dozen Barn Swallows, swooping around the boat and finally settling on the bow rail, some with an insect catch, others preening.
