August 29 - 31, 2024 - Prideaux Haven
We left Campbell River with the plan to rendezvous with Ron and Gretchen in Prideaux Haven. Enroute, we fished for about 1 ½ hour along Cape Mudge (no luck), continuing to Prideaux Haven. Entering Desolation Sound continues to be spectacular! We found Prideaux Haven well occupied with 31 boats at anchor, 10 more in Laura Cove and 10 in Melanie Cove, total of 51 boats! We deployed the kayaks and tender knowing that Artemis would be rafting. With the kayaks down, it was a tour of the bay and over to Laura Cove before Artemis arrived and rafted to our starboard side. It was a BBQ pork and steak dinner aboard Artemis and a fun time sharing stories.
Friday, we woke to a warm and sunny day with a morning kayak around Prideaux Haven and into Melanie Cove. In the afternoon, both tenders headed out for a cruise around to Tenedos Bay. Tonight’s dinner was BBQ chicken aboard Raven.
Saturday, Geary took the rowboat outside of Prideaux, passing an unexpected sight! Taking photos of the sight, he pressed on to Laura Cove and returned through the channel connecting with Lois on a kayak, suggesting that she too needed to head out along the outside – “something you will want to see”. Making it back to Raven, Geary suggested to Ron and Gretchen they too need to head out and look – “something you will want to see”. We had all been shocked to see the 22-meter, Five Star, with her stern sitting high and dry on the rocks at low tide. We later learned that there had been quite a party taking place on-board and she had repositioned three times! Later in the morning a boat rafted to Five Star to provide assistance and eventually towed the boat out from the islets. Apparently not taking on water, the motors were started, and she motored away to Toba Wilderness at 5 kts. Later in the day we had tendered by for another look with Lois and Gretchen, in kayaks, watching the departure. The evening concluded with a Halibut dinner on board Raven.
