September 5, 2024 - Clam Bay

We woke to a calm morning with a lovely sunrise and rode the flood current through Gabriola Passage.  It was a peaceful cruise with no other boats underway during our 1 ½ hr. morning trip to Clam Bay.  We pulled into the bay, where several other boats were still at anchor, and set our anchor.   Settled in, we went about having breakfast, setting out the kayaks, and performing housecleaning in anticipation or Par Coeur’s arrival who was travelling from Nanaimo for a rendezvous.  While waiting, we heard reports on VHF 16 of two different sailboats who had run aground and were seeking assistance, one of which Par Coeur stopped to offer assistance (which was refused).  Soon after their arrival, we had appetizers and beverages aboard Par Coeur – it was great to meet up with Karl and Allison!  Geary and Allison took off on the kayaks, making their way through the cut over to Telegraph Harbour, while Lois prepared dinner.  On the way back from Telegraph Harbour, an Albin 27 was attempting to make their way through the cut.  Allison shouted over to them that they were headed for rocks and to get on the proper side of the channel markers when we heard the sound of their keel grinding over the rocks.  They managed to motor off the rocks and promptly got into the channel.  Returning to Raven and Par Coeur, we all prepared for a nice halibut dinner onboard Raven and lots of stories.
