Departed under calm conditions and cloudy skies with Raven was fully loaded for the Rendezvous. As we passed Hat Island, we could see humpback whales feeding at the south tip. Approaching Deception Pass, the winds started to build. Crossing Rosario Strait we experienced strong wind gusts, up to 30 kts! The weather forecast had changed while enroute with small craft warning for the Strait of Juan de Fuca. NOAA had caught up with the weather applications which provided information that we could make the crossing before the winds strengthened between 4:00 and 5:00.
Nestling close to shore in Hunter Bay, we had a somewhat wind block making for a pleasant anchorage.
During the evening, we continued to have 30 kt. Gusts before settling down. This made for a challenge to get the anchor up the next morning. It took several tries, with us overrunning the anchor to finally break it free.
