As we prepared to weigh anchor, we found that the raw water washdown pump was not working! Fortunately, the chain came up very clean and using some fresh water, secured the anchor, and began trouble shooting. The transit through Zimovia Strait, at low tide/slack current taken slowly, was uneventful with two deer were roaming the shoreline as we passed through the Narrows. As we approached and turned down Chichagof Passage, we started to experience wind gusts with a 47 kt gust as we approached Stikine Strait. Lois spotted a pseudo waterspout in the Passage as well! It appears the wind gusts may have been associated with a passing rain squall as conditions quickly calmed as we approached Sumner Strait. Entering St. John Harbor, we found plenty of room to anchor even with there were three other boats already there. Once settled, Geary got busy with trouble shooting the washdown pump, checking for water blockage and power issues, determining that the pump had failed. Fortunately, we had a spare onboard and was able to replace the failed Flojet 4325 washdown pump with the Johnson WPS 5.2 spare.
