May 7, 2025 - Rescue Bay

The morning at Discovery Harbor started off with clear skies, but fog soon started building in the harbor.  We quickly set out for Rescue Bay with pleasant conditions once we left the harbor.  As we crossed Mathieson Channel, headed for Perceval Narrows, we spotted a couple of sea otters.  The cruise up to Rescue was calm, with a slight diversion around Arthur Island to investigate anchorages.  As we settled in at Rescue Bay and considered kayaking, a rain squall passed through deterring us from lowering the kayaks.  After a bit of lunch, we both took turns with the rowboat taking a tour around the bay.  Geary got the drone out and managed to get some good photos.  Late in the evening we were joined by another boat, Lulu Belle – a tour boat on its way to Valdez.  We learned later that it is a Kelly hull, that was finished at Westport as a custom design.  The owner’s father was a QCYC member (years ago).
