May 8, 2025 - Hawk Bay

We left Rescue Bay early as we decided we wanted to cover a long distance to position for Dixon Entrance crossing.  Rather than the later start we planned, that would take us through Jackson Narrows close to high tide at 10:30 AM, we headed for Oscar Passage at near slack to enable us to make more distance with an early morning start.  As we entered Oscar Passage, we found ourselves facing building ocean swells that were 3’ to 4’ and very short period.  Not a pleasant journey but everything held in place – no flying objects inside Raven!  Once we reached Finlayson Channel, conditions smoothed, and we had a pleasant passage up Fraser Reach.  As we entered Ursula Channel/Mckay Reach/Pilot Point we could spot whale spouts!  We motored on to Hawk Bay to stage for the trip up Grenville Channel.  Hawk Bay is a lovely stop, well protected, with an interesting shoreline for exploring and kayaking.
