June 1, 2025 - Scenery Cove

With calm conditions, and high tide, we got an early start out of Red Bay, giving us ~9’ of water, versus the 5’, we had when we came in making for a more tolerant departure.  Crossing Sumner and Clarence Straits we were going against 2 kts of current as we made our way to Wrangell Narrows.  Approaching the Narrows, we had a brief chat with SaltHeart as they made their way to St. John Harbor.  Fighting a bit of ebb current in the Narrows, we made our way to Petersburg and across Frederick Sound into Thomas Bay where we could get a glimpse of Baird Glacier.  As we headed toward the glacier for a better view, Hawkeye II offered and anchoring position near them at the mud flats, we decided to enter and stay at Scenery Cove instead – which lived up to its name.  Anchoring mid-channel in 90’ we had a wonderful view of the meadow where we could see a black bear grazing.
