June 21, 2025 - Takatz Bay

We got an early start for Takatz so we could get the kayaks out.  As we neared Point Napean, we came across humpback whales feeding!    We shut the engine down, drifting, listening and watching the whales.  We had two swim past us, at the same time (less than 25’ away), on each side of the boat.  Later we had a whale circle around the boat, surfacing at the bow to take in its catch.  As things settled, we moved on and near Point Brightman, where there was a whale on its back flopping its fins.  This went on for some time and then he decided to perform a breach!

Eventually moving on we stopped and fished for 30 minutes near Point Gardner, too much current ~2 kts.  We move on to Takatz where we got the kayaks.  Per and Colette thoroughly enjoyed the kayaks taking them out again in the morning before we left.  We also met Stephen, Suzann and Pike from Fortitude.
